Obama Killed Osama

A major victory for President Obama: it seems like Osama bin Laden has been killed in Pakistan by American forces.

I was watching Celebrity Apprentice when it was interrupted by this special announcement. It was very curious to see the current President interrupt a frivolous show of one of his main detractors and a possible future opponent in the presidential race with this kind of major news.

I don't understand something basic. Please, can you explain me the difference it'll make, except a boost to US morale and the opposite to Al-Qaeda's? Aren't there many others like him, who'll be even more moved (if it's possible) to terror? Will it really diminish the number of recruits to any terrorist organization?

Good riddance!

Although I don't know if invading Afghanistan was at all necessary. He was killed in Pakistan from what I've heard.

El: pursuing criminals is a good in itself irrespective of the fact that there will be other criminals out there after these ones are captured.

Anon: it sounded during Obama's speech like they might have entered Pakistan before informing the country's authorities. Of course, after this success that will be forgiven.

Pakistan's intelligence service works with the Taliban and many in the Pakistani government are anti-American. So it would not surprise me in the least if they weren't told anything.

I just hope we can quickly pull out of that entire region of the world that has brought us nothing but trouble.

I'm completely with you on that last comment.

I can tell you that it seems like we are pulling out, via stuff my hubby has seen in Iraq. But he has to go to Baghdad soon and I think the news that Osama is dead will cause repercussions in the area, not to mention the 500 taliban prisoners that escaped last week. That can't be good for our troops over there.

Liese, I hope your husband stays safe and returns to his family as soon as possible.

Anonymous -- "I just hope we can quickly pull out of that entire region of the world that has brought us nothing but trouble". Yup. It's called quid pro quo. We fervently wish the US administration would pull out its manipulative, greedy and bloody-thirsty self from out of our affairs too, but so far, there's no indication of it happening. Instead, it gleefully sends in more and more young American citizens, to pay with their life and limb the price of a few private overflowing coffers, which i turn sponsors politicians who demand cutting public services to keep funding the wars.

So basically, your fellow citizens have the honour of being slaughtered on foreign soil so their families can lose their homes, their jobs, their health insurance, and live in abject poverty.

We, who live outside this bastion of freedome and democracy, often wonder how much longer it would take for a full-scale political revolution in it.

What one needs to bear in mind about distinctions between afghanistan, pakistan and the rest of the region is that those borders didn't exist until western forces drew them. They are often not recognised or enforced by locals, tribes or governments.

This is not a victory by Obama. If it wasn't for Bush we wouldn't have been in war and killed Osaka in the first place. So therefore all the anti-war people should keep their mouths shut bc the only reason he is dead is bc we were in war. Obama does not deserve credit for this kill, if anyone does it should be the navy seals who actually took him out. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama got another peace prize for this.

When you sober up, buddy, go to a map of the world and see where Iraq and Pakistan are located. And then try to think. In case the thinking process is successful, you might even avoid embarrassing yourself like this in the future.

I just LOL-ed at the photo of one of the main US channels. Look:

I half believe somebody did it on purpose. How can one not know a name after 9/11 + Obama the president?

I know, isn't it bizarre how often they mess up and still remain in business???
