OK, people, I'm choosing a Birthday gift and I'm stumped. The crucial part of the gift is a Star of David, which I think I have already selected. The second part of the gift is more difficult to select, though. Please do me a kindness and vote in a poll located in the right-hand panel of this post. Vote based on what you would have preferred to receive (especially if you are a slightly nerdy intellectual of the male variety.) Everybody else is invited to vote, too.
If you choose the last answer, please give me your suggestion in the comments section of the post.
It's the end of the semester, I'm really tired, and I just can't make up my mind. So your votes will be highly appreciated. My students will appreciate it too as I will be a lot less irritable in class if I have this problem solved.

I am assuming this is for your husband. I don't know if this is the case, but my husband usually feels guilty spending money on himself on things he does not consider essential (and more than a pair of shoes a year qualifies as not essential). Is there anything he wants for himself but has not bought because he considers it an extravagance? It doesn't need to be expensive. Last year, I bought my hubby a comics collection that he really wanted but hadn't bought for himself because it cost 70 dollars.
Yes, this is for my non-Jewish husband who says the only thing he wants in the world is a Star of David of his own because it helps him study and work on projects. (???) For now, he's stealing my Star of David which is producing unnecessary strife in the family. :-)
And he is EXACTLY like your husband in terms of spending money on himself. Giving him gifts has been very difficult from the beginning. They kind of scare him a little bit.
Does he have an Amazon wish list? Can you suggest him to create one? My mother in law finally convinced my husband to create one, and it has solved a lot of my problems.
Great idea! Why didn't I think of getting him to do that sooner?
Since it helps him study, the green banker's lamp is a thoughtful and enduring touch. Plus it will look nice in your home if you live together.
I would vote for a hardcover novel by a favorite author, or else theatre tickets. (I am a nerdy male theatre fan.)
That actually makes sense. The two gifts will compliment each other.
Theater tickets would sound like, "And now you get to drive me all the way to St. Louis to see the play." :-)
No, no! Get a Limo driver to take you to Chicago to see a play! I am sure it costs less than a kilobuck!
Or better yet, a jet to take us to La Scala. I know he'll love that. :-)
I guess most of your original ideas sound somewhat generic... Except the banker lamp.
Is there something specific to him? (Favorite books are along these lines, but I do not know if you still have time for it. Also, forcing him to make a wishlist right before his birthday will look somehow obvious... :) )
Some dream computer gadget? Or is the banker lamp actually his dream gadget? As a nerdy male of somewhat intellectual variety I can assure you that not all of us dream of banker lamps. So if he ever expressed the wish to have one - go for it.
The banker lamp was more of my suggestion which he didn't actively oppose. So no, it isn't a dream of his or anything.
A computer gadget would be perfect but I have no idea what it could be. He knows a lot more about computers than I do, so anything I can come up with will be kind of basic.
I do not like the banker's lamp because I find the green color depressing after a while. I would buy one myself if they came in orange.
I think they definitely come in orange because I've seen them around. They look lovely.
I have bad associations with the orange color, though, because my first husband really loved it.
