So I just got the news that I have been awarded my first grant. Among other nice things, the grant will give me a course release from one of my courses next semester. The goal of the grant is to offer me time and resources to prepare my trademark Hispanic Civilization course as a blended one. I also get money for technology that will make the project possible. It's good to know that I can write a winning grant. This comes just in time for my Birthday next week.
This grant is the very first step in a multi-stage plan to move half of my teaching load online. Everybody will benefit in the end: the students who have family and work obligations and find it difficult to attend all of their courses in person, the administrators who will get to retain students we would have otherwise lost, and, of course, me.
I will share my experiences of creating a blended and an online course on this blog.
