I just read the following brilliant statement on the US foreign policy at Mike's blog:
Why American foreign policy is a failure: If some country far away were flying drones over my head and randomly slaughtering my friends and family, I’d be doing everything in my power to murder the fuck out of that country. It’d be my life’s mission.
Why is this not obvious?
I'd really want to know the answer to this, too.

because the vast majority of Americans are hubristic idiots who believe that since day one the Lord God himself ordained that we shall do whatever the fuck we want to whomever whenever.
I blame their history teachers :)
Because Americans are media-fed to believe their "brave men and women" are bringing Freedom And Democracy And MCDonald's to that poor, poor country.
It's not their fault. Well, it's not entirely their fault.
@Rimi
That reminds me of something I have heard Steven Colbert. Someting about exporting democracy until China finds a way to do it more price-efficient.
I think people, politians, pundits and all the other ride a moral high horse from time to time. Its just that the most of them don't have a multi-trillion dollar war-machine at hand.
Yeah, but then you'd also be living under the Taliban. Who here wants that?
That stuff about randomly murdering civilians is down right ridiculous.
Yes, just like they do in Yugoslavia and in Latin America.
If the US was anything like the Taliban and did not care about civilians, we would be carpet bombing the shit out of that country and there would be millions of dead Afghanis.
Problem is all the smart bombs in the world don't work when scumbag terrorists use civilians and their own families as human shields.
Buddy, I understand that ignorance is bliss but there has to be a limit to it. The Taliban in Afghanistan was armed by the US in the 1980ies.
The US bombed and invaded many other countries that don't even know the word Taliban.
I'm not saying US foreign policy makes any sense. But it's beyond ridiculous to compare US tactics to Taliban tactics. If you can't tell the difference you are an idiot.
The only person who compared anything to Taliban in this thread is you. So who's the idiot here?
Because randomly murdering civilians is what the Taliban does. Dumbass.
All poodles are dogs but not all dogs are poodles.
I've had my share of idiots commenting on this blog but you really take the cake, buddy.
Do these voices you have in your head bother you often?
You don't even know what you are talking about.
You know damn well I am right. If the US was out there killing people for the heck of it, there would not be any Afghan left standing. So, the argument that the US indiscriminately kills civilians is false. Thus the premise of the original statement from Mike's blog is wrong. Meaning that any deduction from that premise is wrong as well. Entiendes?
Can you point out where exactly in my post I mention words "Afghanistan" or "Taliban"? That's right, I don't. You introduced both Afghanistan and Taliban into the discussion and then started arguing with yourself. Which is a very crazy thing to do.
The concept of "killing people for the heck of it" is also yours.
Stop talking to yourself, buddy, cause it's just plain creepy.
Afghanistan and the Taliban are concrete examples of what Mike was referring to.
You surely know how to lose an argument with class.
Newsflash: this isn't Mike's blog. You want to argue with Mike, go argue with him. My concrete examples that I offered in this thread were Yugoslavia and Latin America.
