Whenever I need to make myself feel smart, I always wear my Magen David. It has some weird psychological effect on me. I could, of course, analyze all the strange connotations it seems to have for me, but right now I feel too wiped out for that. Hence, the desperate need for props that would make me feel I still have a brain.

Interesting. My Pentacle does something similar for me. If I try to expalin it, I end up thinking about the wonderful geometrical and mathematical properties of the regular five-pointed star.
If you can have your Star of David why can't I have my American flag?
Have you noticed how I'm not trying to impose it on anybody in any public setting? It's a personal piece of jewelry - just like all my other jewelry - that I never made part of any public discussion at my university.
In any case, you are welcome to analyze all the ideology behind my attachment to it, I won't mind. :-)
I am not trying to impose my flag or my country on anyone. I believe it is important to have a country and to be loyal to it. I am hard at work building my country and anyone similarly commented to having a country is free to join mine, even people with different political opinions.
I would agree that it's important TO SOME PEOPLE to have a country, while it is not important to others. I think both positions should be respected as long as they don't infringe upon each other. You should have the right to celebrate the flag while I should have the right to make fun of it. Neither of us should be forced either to hoist it or to take it down. Wouldn't you agree?
People are free to not have a country and live in anarchist bliss as long as they are not mooching off the benefits that living in an established State. If you are living in my country and enjoying its benefits then I expect that you treat the country along with its symbols with respect.
Every country where I pay taxes (and quite a lot of them, too) is definitely mine. :-)
I don't know any way of treating something as huge as an entire country with respect aside from abiding its laws and - once again - paying taxes. Do you?
I am fine with anyone who obeys ALL the laws, not just the ones they agree with, pays taxes and does not actively advocate the violent overthrow of the government or the murder of its citizens.
I hope youd don't suspect ME, of all people, of advocating violence against the government and the murder of citizens. I don't think I have given any reasons for that, have I?
No. You can stay in my country. :)
