Funny how people with this last name share love for literature. :-)

I am afraid to offend Paula, but I think that us unites not only a surname, but also a nationality. And among people of this nationality many creative people. I will quote in Russian because unfortunately on English I can not translate further.
"Мы дали миру много комиссаров, но, слава Богу, больше скрипачей".

I think you are absolutely right. You Russian people are very creative. And there is nothing here to offend Paula. She seems vey proud of her heritage. :-)

Clarissa, congratulations!
I remember how much and for how long you wanted it to happen.

Thank you, V.!

Every time I see there are new comments in this topic, I feel wary. This happens because of the debacle caused by the post on Catherine's talk and my comments about it and her sari. :-) You just never know what will cause people to get offended on somebody else's behalf.

What debacle? :) I find it hilarious. Or did anybody harass you outside of the blog?

I've been running around like a headless chicken, organizing everything in the past couple of days. So it felt very weird to snatch a couple of moments here and there to look at my blog and see people passionately accuse me of hating India. It's like an alternative reality where everything is weird and people are insane. :-)

That was a fun talk, Clarissa. I'm glad I came there. I'm thinking that I'll write my impression of the event to a newspaper instead of my blog. But I haven't decided yet :)

Great idea, Kola. Not only would this be good for the visibility of our department, it might also signal to some people that the funding freeze is wrong and something should be done about it.
