So Has the Movie Atlas Shrugged Already Been Released?

And if so, then why isn't it showing at our local movie theater? I haven't been able to find it anywhere in St. Louis either. I absolutely need to watch this movie, people. Even if I have to schlep all the way to Springfield. And yes, I'm sure that the book must have been mangled horribly in the course of making the movie, but still I have to see it for myself.

Has anybody seen it? Any impressions to share?

I really don't share your appreciation of Ayn Rands novels, but here it is your answer, as a service to the community:

She is a Russian speaker who always spoke with a heavy Russian accent but still became a bestselling author in English. She also sounds like she had Asperger's. I identify.

Thanks for the link!!!

This is completely off-topic, but I found it reading the last issue of The Economist last night, and thought about you and teaching language. It's a review of a book by a professor of Russian literature. The book, apparently, is mixed with personal anecdotes from the professor. She is not Russian (she is Turkish-American), and apparently started studying Russian in college. Here is a quote about her first language textbook: "She recalls her first Russian- language textbook, which featured a story about a woman who goes to visit her boyfriend only to discover a note saying, 'Forget me'." How wonderful is it?

Here is a link to the whole review:

"The dreamlike inscrutability of Russian literature" just made me very very angry at The Economist. Thank you for sharing the review! I will use it to bug my Russian husband and tell him to have "a resignation of the soul." :-) :-)

I don't hugely respect Ayn Rand either as a fction writer or philosopher, but, because the people in Think Tank Land where I work worship her, I'm going to have to go see the movie. Probably tomorrow (advantage of Big City Living = lots of movie choices) and will have a post up sooner or later on my response (that will probably piss them off, since they all think the movie is great, despite reviews).

Feel free to post a link to your response here. I'd love to read it.
